This hands-on workshop sponsored by the ALLC provides an introduction to the theory and practice of encoding electronic texts for the humanities.
Theory, and practicalities of encoding in XML (Extensible Markup Language) using the Text Encoding Initiative (TEI) guidelines will be presented. No previous knowledge of XML or the TEI is necessary
Topics to be Covered
- Introduction to mark-up languages: HTML/SGML/XML
- Introduction to mark-up following the Text Encoding Initiative Guidelines
- Introduction to CSS and XML
- Encoding exercise using XML and TEI Lite
The workshop will be guest in the LABLITA lab at the Italian Department of the University of Florence. Free admission till 20 participants. Registration of attendants during the conference at the Conference desk. The workshop will be held in English.
