CLiP 2003
Computers, Literature and Philology
Proceedings of the CLiP 2003 conference available.
Unitary management of the multilingual
European cultural heritage and its exloitation on the net.
The goal of the international conference on
Computers, Literature and Philology (CLIP) is the integration of the humanistic
disciplines with information technology and communication (TLC). Literature and
Philology should be understood in a broad sense; by literature we mean text of
all types (spoken, written and Internet), in which the content can also include
images, sounds, graphics, etc. Philology considers the scientific analysis of
different texts from different perspectives (linguistic, cultural, text
analysis, etc.). The CLiP seminars are considered by
specialists to be a very prestigious forum for discussion of outstanding
scientific quality and supraregional importance. The first
meeting, Edimburg 1998, was organized under the initiative of Domenico Fiormonte and Jonathan Usher later joined by Lou Burnard, University of Oxford, Elisabeth Burr, University of Bremen; Francisco Marcos-Marin,
Università Autónoma of Madrid and Antonio Zampolli, University of
Pisa. These scholars are aware of the significance of new technology in
philology and other humanistic sciences and the importance of utilizing
humanistic content in a digital form and via the Internet. The following
meetings are along the same line concerning European cultural and technological
frame. CLIP 2003 is centred around themes that are relative to
multilingualism in a humanistic content and has a principal objective of
bringing together scholars and technicians working in the field of Humanities
Computing focusing on the theme of:
Unitary management
of the multilingual European cultural heritage and its exploitation on the net
CLIP examines the themes of multilingualism in the context of the
European Union and is, above all, interested in collaboration between teaching
and research. There will also be scientists from non-European countries
participating at this conference, in particular, Americans working in the field
of Humanities Computing. Presentations will be accepted in the following
areas: - Main tools used to access the cultural heritage in a
multilingual environment
- The possibilities offered by digital publishing in
the development and safekeeping of major and minority languages
- Tools for assisted
translation
- Curriculum and networks of excellence in European
university programs in the field of Humanities Computing
- Tools for
multilingual on-line teaching
